Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area
135 PM PDT Sat Jul 13 2019

.SYNOPSIS...Very warm temperatures will continue for most inland
areas through the weekend. A shallow marine layer and onshore
flow will maintain seasonably cool conditions near the ocean this
weekend, along with night and morning low clouds and fog. A
gradual cooling trend is forecast for inland areas beginning on
Monday and continuing through much of next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...As of 1:35 PM PDT Saturday...Low clouds have mostly
cleared to coast, although the usual stubborn areas are still being
affected by stratus including Point Reyes, the western half of
San Francisco, and the southern portion of the Monterey Bay, from
about Marina to Pebble Beach. Expect moments of sunshine in these
areas, but overall, it will remain cloudy in these areas with the
persistent northwest flow over the ocean keeping these clouds in
place. Temperatures around the area are running slightly warmer
across inland areas, but similar to or cooler than yesterday at
this time along the coast. Current readings are ranging from the
lower to mid 60s near the ocean, to the 70s around the San
Francisco Bay, to the 80s and 90s inland. Slightly cooler
temperatures are anticipated on Sunday as the upper level ridge
begins to weaken.

By Monday, the upper level ridge will continue to weaken and edge
eastward as an upper level trough settles along the coast.
Widespread cooling associated with a deepening marine layer will
then follow. This trend is expected to maintain through the rest
of the week, with inland high temps about 10 degrees cooler than
present. Near-coastal areas will remain about the same.

&&

.AVIATION...as of 10:00 AM PDT Saturday...Stratus and fog continue
to mix out back to the coastline, onshore breezes continue. The
marine layer depth is near 1,000 feet. IFR/LIFR ceilings on the
coastline, otherwise VFR. IFR/LIFR ceilings likely redeveloping
this evening and overnight.

Vicinity of KSFO...VFR with W-NW wind becoming gusty to 25 knots
this afternoon and early evening. IFR ceiling forecast late tonight
and early Sunday. VFR for the remainder of Sunday with onshore wind
becoming gusty again to 25 knots.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...IFR/LIFR lifting to VFR by late morning.
Breezy onshore winds of 10-15 kt expected this afternoon. IFR/LIFR
redeveloping early evening, mid evening at the latest.

&&

.MARINE...as of 9:17 AM PDT Saturday...Gusty northwest winds will
continue through Monday as surface low pressure persists over the
interior with high pressure over the eastern Pacific. This will
result in steep fresh swell, creating hazardous seas for small
crafts. A light, long-period southerly swell will also continue
through the weekend.
