A large low pressure system along with a strong cold front moved across the region on Thanksgiving Day. The system caused a prolonged period of strong winds in many parts of the region. Widespread power outages were reported on Thanksgiving afternoon in the Shepherdstown, WV area. Nearly 150 residents lost power, mostly in the Deer Mountain Estates area. Martinsburg Airport, which is nearby, reported a wind gust of 37 knots (43 mph).
