A grass and brush fire, with a suspicious origin, scorched 80 acres near Lahaina in leeward West Maui. The blaze came within 50 yards of homes in the Wahikuli residential area, above Kahoma Street on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains.

A SURFACE HIGH NORTHEAST OF THE ISLANDS WILL MOVE SOUTHWEST AND WEAKEN...BUT MODERATE TRADE WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO BLOW ACROSS THE CHAIN INTO THE WEEKEND. THE TRADE WINDS WILL RELAX A LITTLE THIS WEEKEND AS THE HIGH WEAKENS.
