AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR SOUTHEAST SD/SOUTHWEST MN/NORTHWEST IA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD 850 PM CDT WED APR 17 2002 EARLIER ZONE FORECAST FOR THE CWA WAS VERIFYING WELL AND NO UPDATE IS ANTICIPATED FOR NOW. ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED IN EAST CENTRAL NE THIS EVENING AND MOVED INTO WEST CENTRAL IA BY 0130Z. PRESENT EXTRAPOLATION OF THAT CLUSTER OF CELLS WOULD KEEP THE ACTIVITY JUST SOUTHEAST OF IDA COUNTY. AS PER SPC DISCUSSION... DURING THE NIGHT ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE IN WARM ADVECTION IN ADVANCE OF THE UPPER LEVEL WAVE ENTER THE DAKOTAS TONIGHT. SURFACE PRESSURE FALLS OF 4 MB WERE NOTED ALONG THE SOUTHWESTERN SD BORDER. SURFACE DEWPOINTS WERE ON THE RISE...WITH ONE AXIS INTO NORTHWEST IA AND A SECOND AXIS INTO SOUTHWEST SD. ADDITIONAL DESTABILAZIATION IN ADVANCE OF THE APPROACHING WAVE IS EXPECTED DURING THE NIGHT ACROSS THE CWA...SO NO CHANGE TO THUNDERSTORM FORECAST FOR NOW. .FSD...NONE UMLAND
