A fire burned more than 40 acres of brush in the vicinity of Mailiili Road just south of Waianae. The fire came within 100 yards of the Waianae Comprehensive Health Center and within 50 yards of three nearby homes. However, no residents were evacuated; and no serious injuries or property damage were otherwise reported.

SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY AS THE REMNANTS OF BARBARA SPREAD ACROSS THE ISLANDS. DISCUSSION...STABLE SUBSIDING AIR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES AHEAD OF THE REMNANTS OF BARBARA WILL KEEP RAINFALL TO A MINIMUM STATEWIDE FOR THE REST OF TODAY AND SUNDAY. THE HEIGHT AND STRENGTH OF THE TRADE WIND INVERSION...ONE INDICATOR OF THE STABILITY OF THE ATMOSPHERE... WAS JUST BELOW 5000 FEET AS MEASURED BY THE AFTERNOON HILO SOUNDING. LOW LEVEL CLOUD PATCHES JUST UPSTREAM OF THE ISLANDS AND ALONG WINDWARD LOCATIONS SHOULD BE MAINLY CONFINED TO WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN AREAS. AT HIGH LEVELS PATCHES OF CIRRUS CONTINUE TO MOVE ACROSS THE STATE FROM THE WEST. THE LOW LEVEL TRADE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO CARRY CLOUDS AND SHOWERS ...THE REMNANTS OF BARBARA...ACROSS THE ISLANDS SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. SHOWERS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE DISTURBANCE ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE BIG ISLAND LATE SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT AND THE SMALLER ISLANDS MONDAY. SOME SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AND THERE MAY EVEN BE A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO AS THE REMNANT CIRCULATION PASSES BY. AT UPPER LEVELS...A LOW LOCATED NEAR 28N 149W OR 690 MILES NORTHEAST OF HILO THIS AFTERNOON IS FORECAST TO MOVE SOUTHWESTWARD TO A POSITION NEAR KAUAI AND OAHU BY MONDAY. THE COLD AIR AT UPPER LEVELS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY ENHANCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SHOWERS AND ANY THUNDERSTORMS AS THE REMNANT CIRCULATION AND MOISTURE FROM BARBARA MOVES BY THE ISLANDS.
