Strong, persistent northwest winds behind a cold front produced orographically enhanced snows to the higher elevations of Preston and Tucker Counties. Snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches were found over the mountain ridges, with lesser amounts of 2 to 4 inches reported at lower elevations across the counties. Some of the higher snowfall totals included 8 inches in Thomas (Tucker County), 7 inches in Canaan Valley (Tucker) and 5 inches in Terra Alta (Preston).
