Damaging Wind in Pennsylvania, August 14, 1999

A severe thunderstorm knocked down numerous trees and power lines in the lower part of Bucks County from Warrington Township southeast to the Delaware River. Wind damage was reported in Bensalem, Bristol, Lower Makefield, Middletown and Warrington Townships. The worst damage occurred in the Warrington Village Development in Warrington Township. Numerous trees were uprooted and two homes were severely damaged after trees fell through their roofs. Another home's patio and family room was damaged and at least one car was destroyed. PECO Energy reported about 47,000 homes and businesses lost power in Southeast Pennsylvania, about 5,000 of the outages occurred in Bucks County. About a quarter of the outages were attributed to the wind. There were about 1,600 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes as the thunderstorms moved through Southeast Pennsylvania during the afternoon of the 14th. The storms overnight produced about 5,000 cloud-to-ground strikes.
