Dry conditions that began in July of 1998, subsided for several months during the later part of 1998 and the first part of 1999, returned in June of 1999. June rainfall amounts were mainly about half of what normally falls. In many areas, crops were damaged or destroyed. Water levels in creeks, streams, and rivers were very low. Some creeks and wells temporarily dried up.
