Tornado and Hail in Illinois, June 1, 1999

A tornado touched down 5.5 miles northwest of Rushville. As it travelled to the northeast it destroyed the roof of a machine shed and tipped over a camper and a fifth wheel. Numerous trees were blown over. Four and a half miles north northwest of Rushville, the tornado caused minor damage to two homes and the roof of a barn. Also, several power poles were snapped off at the base. The tornado lifted and dissipated 5 miles north of Rushville. No injuries were reported and damage was estimated around $60,000.

Thunderstorm winds blew down several trees, one of which fell onto an unoccupied car. Also, numerous tree limbs were blown down and a grain bin was blown over and onto Highway 67. No injuries were reported.

Numerous trees and tree limbs were blown down in the Astoria area. Some of the trees fell over onto US 24 two miles east northeast of Astoria. As the storms approached the Sepo area, several large trees were blown down across US Route 136 three miles south of Sepo. Several more trees were blown down onto Route 78 one mile south of US Route 24. No injuries were reported.

Six 25 foot tall trees were snapped off at their bases one mile north of Maquon.

As a bow echo moved east across Mason County, numerous trees were blown down. Some of the trees caused minor structural damage. Also, a roof was lifted off of a house and an old drive-in movie screen was blown over. Five miles west of Manito, several power lines and trees were blown down in the Woodland Estates Subdivision. Several homes sustained minor damage from the fallen trees. A 60 mph wind gust was reported in Bath. Damage in Mason County due to the thunderstorm winds was estimated around $200,000.
