A storm system over the Tennessee Valley Tuesday morning, November 2, 1999 moved northeast into the St. Lawrence Valley Wednesday morning, November 3, 1999. Strong winds developed ahead of this system. The strongest wind reported was an estimated 46 knots (53 mph) in Saranac Lake, New York at 2200 EST. Trees and power lines were blown down with approximately 5000 people without power in and around the Lake Placid area. Trees were blown down with roads closed in the towns of Raybrook, Minerva and Newcomb.
