The combination of a strong high pressure system exiting off the coast and a strong cold front approaching from the west caused damaging southeast wind gusts from 58 to 64 mph. (These gusts were measured by wind systems used by our local spotters.)High winds downed numerous tree limbs, trees, wires, and power lines. During the peak, Connecticut Light and Power reported 35,700 customers without power in Fairfield County. Damage was widespread across the area.Selected peak wind gusts measured by:Our local spotters included: 64 mph at Meriden, 62 mph at Guilford, and 61 mph at Danbury.ASOSs included 53 mph at Bridgeport and 51 mph at Meriden.
