Heavy rains, indirectly brought about by a subtropical low near Kodiak, resulted in heavy rains in several areas of the Susitna drainage basin. Total rainfall amounts between 2 and 2.5 inches were recorded during less than 24 hours around Talkeetna. Several other remote gauges recorded heavy rainfall in the 2 inch range. Reports received from the State Troopers and Emergency managers indicated that water in several smaller rivers and creeks came up to bankfull levels with very localized minor flooding near campgrounds. A Flash Flood Watch was issued at 2:30 pm (ADT) Thursday, August 12th for streams and small rivers in the Susitna Valley (including those draining south and southeast from the western Alaska Range). The Watch was cancelled at 10:30 pm Thursday, then reissued 3:30 am Friday...finally discontinued again at 9 am Friday.
