Hail and Damaging Winds in Illinois, August 12, 1999

Thunderstorm winds caused considerable damage in Schuyler county. Numerous trees, tree limbs, and power lines were blow down. Also, thousands of acres of corn were laid down by the winds. Crop damage was estimated around $2 million. In Rushville, one unoccupied truck was damaged when a tree fell onto it. Property damage was estimated around $77,000.

As a line of severe thunderstorms moved through Mason County, numerous trees, tree limbs, and power lines were blown down. Also, thousands of acres of corn were laid down. At the intersection of Route 97 and the Bath blacktop, a tree was blown over onto a van trapping its occupants. They were freed by rescue crews and sustained no injuries. In the Sanganois conservation area, another car was trapped by a fallen tree, but there were no injuries. Damage to the crops was estimated around $12.3 million.

Trees were blown down countywide, as well as, 11 power poles along Route 29 just north of Athens.One tree fell onto a house and truck just north of Petersburg. No injuries were reported. Thousands of acres of corn were flattened, especially in the northern part of the county. Damage to the crops was estimated around $6 million.

Numerous trees, tree limbs, and power lines were blown down countywide. Also, thousands of acres of corn were flattened. In Mt. Pulaski, a tree was blown down onto a house causing minor damage. New Holland Fire Department estimated 85 mph winds for about 2 minutes. Damage to the crops was estimated around $8.3 million.

As a line of severe thunderstorms moved into Cass County, several miles stretch of US Route 67 was closed due to 40 power poles being blown down. Also, ten homes sustained minor damage from the storms. A barn and a garage were destroyed, and numerous trees, tree limbs, and other power lines were blown down. In Arenzville, one of the fallen trees damaged a pickup truck. Also, considerable crop damage was reported countywide, especially between Beardstown and Arenzville. Damage to the crops was estimated around $6.8 million.

Several large tree limbs were blown down along Interstate 72. Also, there was considerable damage to corn crops around the Riggston area. Damage to the crops was estimated around $2.8 million.

Also, several car windows were broken due to fallen tree limbs. Thousands of acres of corn were destroyed. Damage to the crops was estimated around $11.8 million.

As a severe thunderstorm moved across northern portions of Macon County, thousands of acres of corn were destroyed. Also, several power lines were blown down in Argenta. Dollar amounts estimates of crop damage was around $2.2 million.
