tomorrow afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 14.5 feet
early Tuesday afternoon.
* Impact...At 13.0 feet, Homes in low-lying areas on the downstream
side of Louisiana Highway 21 near the bridge will flood. The
access road upstream of the bridge will remain inundated.

* Impact...At 16.0 feet, Bogue Chitto Heights Subdivision will begin
to flood. Some homes will be damaged. Homes on the west bank north

.AVIATION...Hurricane Ida will continue inland tonight producing
widespread rain with isolated thunderstorms. IFR/LIFR conditions
will continue overnight with Hurricane force gusts. Expect east to
northeast winds to become southwesterly Monday morning with rain and
thunderstorms persisting as the center of Ida moves north into
Mississippi.

PREV DISCUSSION...
.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Tuesday Night)...Hurricane Ida will
continue to push inland tonight and is expected to be moving into
central Mississippi by tomorrow morning. Significant hurricane
impacts are expected to affect the entire forecast area through
the overnight hours. After the center of the storm exits the area
tomorrow, there are indications that a feeder band will remain in
place across the region. This feeder band could focus training
thunderstorms across the same area tomorrow afternoon into
tomorrow night. At this time, this band looks to develop over the
River Parishes and then drift to the southeast toward the coast.
Given the heavy rainfall occurring with the hurricane, flash
flooding issues will continue to be a risk. This convergence band
will likely persist through Tuesday night, and this will help keep
temperatures a bit cooler than average through the short term
period. Highs will likely only warm into the lower 80s tomorrow
and the middle to upper 80s on Tuesday. Conditions will also
remain breezy through Tuesday as a fairly tight pressure gradient
lingers over the region in the wake of Hurricane Ida. Conditions
should begin to improve by Tuesday night as the system weakens and
the pressure gradient begins to ease.
.LONG TERM (Wednesday through Saturday)...The convergence
boundary and resultant showers and thunderstorms will continue to
develop over the area on Wednesday and keep likely POP values in
place through the day. By Thursday, deep layer northerly flow will
take hold of the region and this will usher in a much drier and
much more stable airmass. Precipitable water values will decrease
to between 1.5 and 2 inches, and rain chances will diminish to 20
percent or less from Thursday through Saturday as strong upper
level subsidence warms the mid-levels and reduces instability.
Some weak cool air advection will also occur, and this should help
with recovery efforts. Temperatures are projected to dip into the
60s and lower 70s at night and highs are only expected to rise
into the upper 80s. Humidity values will also be a bit lower than
normal for early September.

.MARINE...Hazardous conditions for maritime interests will
continue through tomorrow as Hurricane Ida continues to move
inland across Louisiana and Mississippi. Even after hurricane
conditions come to an end, a fairly tight pressure gradient
over the coastal waters will keep winds in small craft advisory
range through Monday night. The pressure gradient should continue
to weaken on Tuesday and Wednesday as winds should decrease to 10
to 15 knots by Wednesday night. Seas will correspondingly decrease
to 3 to 5 feet by this time. A weak front will slip through on
Thursday and winds will shift to the north at 5 to 10 knots for
the end of the week. Seas of 2 feet or less are expected with
these lighter winds.
