The National Weather Service in New Orleans has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
  East Central Harrison County in southern Mississippi...
  Jackson County in southern Mississippi...

* Until 945 PM CDT Tuesday.

* At 946 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Flooding is 
  already occurring in the warned area. Between 5 and 10 inches of 
  rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Moss Point, Escatawpa, St. Martin, Gautier, 
  D'iberville, Vancleave, Hickory Hills, Wade, Helena, Big Point, 
  Hurley, Gulf Park Estates, Gulf Hills and Latimer.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding.

.SHORT TERM (TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT)...

Tropical Storm Ida will continue to push slowly northeast MS by
daybreak Tuesday and into Middle Tennessee by Tuesday evening.
During Ida's journey northeast tonight it is expected to become a
depression. A trailing band will train thunderstorms across
coastal SE LA and coastal SW MS and vertically along the MS/LA
border through this evening. Strongest convergence should align
along coastal areas tonight with highest rain totals over coastal
Mississippi where an addition 1 to 1.5 inches are possible where
there is a slight risk of flooding through tonight. Wake trough
and convergent flow will likely persist through mid day Tuesday
night and this will keep thunderstorm and additional rainfall
chances in place mainly south of I-10 stratifying to higher
chances along the coast and adjacent Gulf of Mexico waters. Highs
will will warm into the upper 80s to near 90 on Tuesday. Plenty of
tropical moisture combined with these temperatures will bring heat
indices in some Southeast Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi to
reach 100 degrees during the late morning hours through most of
the afternoon. Heat advisory thresholds in this special
circumstance has been lowered to 100 degrees, due to lack of power
in many places and during the recovery efforts. Please take
frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Conditions near the
coast will also remain breezy through mid day Tuesday as a fairly
tight pressure gradient lingers over the region in the wake of
Ida. Conditions will continue to improve by Tuesday evening as
the pressure gradient begins to loosen.

.LONG TERM (Wednesday through Saturday)...The trailing wake
trough will to provide a convergence boundary with resultant
showers and thunderstorms developing over the area on Wednesday
and keep likely to categorical POP values in place through the
day. A trailing trough will be extending back into the region
Wednesday, slipping down to the coast by Wednesday night. By
Thursday, a northerly flow will take hold of the region and this
will usher in a much drier and much more stable airmass.
Precipitable water values will decrease to between 1.5 and 2
inches, and rain chances will diminish to 20 percent or less from
Thursday through Saturday as strong upper level subsidence warms
the mid-levels and reduces instability. Some weak cool air
advection will also occur, and this should help with recovery and
restoration efforts. With the deeper moisture is pushed offshore
into the Gulf and a mostly dry forecast is expected through the
extend period except for down near the coast where slightly better
moisture and daily sea breezes will result in some isolated
convection. Temperatures are projected to dip into the 60s and
lower 70s at night and highs are only expected to rise into the
upper 80s. Humidity values will also be a bit lower than normal
for early September.

.AVIATION (18z TAF discussion)...

Mainly MVFR ceilings rest of today and into tonight with main
band of showers from near or east of KGPT to extreme southeast
LA. Some trailing bands of showers will still be possible into the
evening hours as they rotate around TC Ida. Included IFR ceiling
for KMCB for Tuesday morning with support from MOS and SREF but
otherwise mainly MVFR Tuesday morning. Additional shower activity
possible overnight but more isolated and scattered in coverage.
South to southwest winds close to 15G25kt rest of the aftn and
will diminish tonight. Mainly southwest and west winds 10-15 kt
Tuesday.

.MARINE...Hazardous conditions for maritime interests continue
most of this evening as Tropical Storm Ida moves further inland
across Mississippi. Winds will start to ease overnight, but a
tight pressure gradient over the coastal waters will keep winds in
the Small Craft Advisory range (20-30 kts) through this evening.
The pressure gradient should continue to weaken overnight through
Wednesday as winds should decrease to 10 to 15 knots by Wednesday
night. Seas will correspondingly decrease to 3 to 5 feet by this
time. A weak front will slip through on Thursday and winds will
shift to the north at 5 to 10 knots for the end of the week. Seas
of 2 feet or less are expected with these lighter winds.

.CWF (Marine Light)...
Tropical Storm Ida will continue to move north away from the region
today but hazardous winds and seas will continue across most of
the area waters rest of today and into tonight. Breezy southwest
winds and roughs seas are likely over open waters on Tuesday.
Winds will begin to ease further Tuesday night. A feeder band of
training showers and thunderstorms expected to continue across
Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf waters through the evening.
Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for portions of the
eastern waters and Small Craft Advisory to the west.

.HYDROLOGY...Surge will slowly pull back through this evening along
the coastal and river parishes. However, coastal flooding will
likely continue. Moderate to Major river flooding will continue
at through at least early Wednesday on Tchefuncte, Tangipahoa,
Bougue, Falaya River and Hobolochito Creek. Creeks and
tributaries of the Pearl River are also expected to remain or reach
moderate to major flood stages as well over the next 12 to 24
hours.
