.SHORT TERM...(Tonight)

Seeing some rain starting to enter the picture over AR as strong
moisture advection continues off the Gulf with strong low level
south winds.

A little elevated/mucape over far southern MO may support some
some isolated heavier showers/convection and some lightning
overnight. A surface front will extend from southeast KS into
central and northeast MO and this front won't move much into
Friday as a sfc wave develops on the front over easter OK late
tonight.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Thursday)

Friday-Saturday: Main forecast concerns:

1. Heavy rain (best chances Friday afternoon/Friday night) and
resultant flash flooding along with areal flooding that will last
through the weekend. Widespread 3++ inches of rain is expected
and this type of rain causes widespread river/creek/low water
crossing flooding. PWATS/moisture content are progged to be as
high as it gets for this time of year as a sfc wave tracks east
along a the surface front expected to be in place over
central/southern MO into OK/southeast KS. Convective instability
will be present to aid in showers/periods of heavier rain moving
west-east across our area Friday afternoon Friday night. Model
blend-ECMWF were used for the qpf. The GFS is trending somewhat higher
with rain amounts versus previous runs.

2. Severe storm risk Friday afternoon/Friday night with a low
instability high vertical wind shear scenario. The SPC marginal/slight
severe storm risk with an isolated wind/a brief qlcs tornado
spin-up being the primary risks still look on track. The GFS looks
fairly bullish on mlcape (but still low) Friday afternoon-Friday
evening (ECMWF is a bit less). Negatives for severe weather may be
the slow movement of the front with colder air eventually
undercutting the convection. Will need to watch trends on this.

3. Winter weather: On the backside of the system as initially
shallow cold air moves into southeast KS and western MO Friday
night into Saturday, a wintry mix of freezing rain/drizzle, then
sleet then finally snow is expected. The snow on Saturday will
likely be the result the trailing upper low moving through the
region with a weak trowal signature. Where this sets up is still
in some question. Some ice accumulation will also be possible as
the cold air first moves in as the sfc wave passes off to the
southeast. Followed fairly close to WPC guidance for snow/ice
amounts, maybe a little higher on the snow over the western half
of the cwfa. After coordination, will issue a Winter Storm Watch
for a snow-ice combo for some of our west-northwest counties for
late Friday night and Saturday.

Sunday-Monday: A quick sfc ridge will move through Saturday night
with cold temperatures, but temperatures will quickly moderate
early next week.

Tuesday-Thursday: Guidance varies, but another sfc low/cold front
will move through the region for the late Tue- early Wed time
frame with colder and dry air nosing south into the region by
Thursday. There won't be much moisture in place for this front,
so precip chances look low.

A complex forecast is in store for the regions terminals over the
next 24 to 48 hours. Ceilings will remain IFR through tonight
with showers and isolated thunder. This will occur in advance of a
storm system that will move through the region Friday into
Saturday. Rain may be heavy at times which will restrict
visibilities to MVFR for the most part. Occasionally, visibilities
may be IFR but these periods will be brief.

With the storm system will come periods of low level wind shear
tonight for the Branson area and Friday evening for Springfield
and Joplin. Regardless, aviators can expect MVFR to IFR flight
conditions through Friday night.

As the system moves through the region, the precipitation is
expected to become a wintry mix with icing possible, but
ultimatelychanging over to snow late Friday night and through
much of Saturday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of the Missouri
Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas.

Weather hazards expected...

  Limited flooding risk.
  Limited lightning risk.

DISCUSSION...

A few thunderstorms will be possible tonight. Locally heavy
rainfall could lead to both urban and small stream flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop Friday. The
overall heaviest rain is expected to occur Friday afternoon and
Friday night. Storm total rainfall amounts are expected to range
from 2.5 to 4 inches. Localized amounts of around 6 inches will
be possible where training thunderstorms occur. Widespread
rainfall of this magnitude will likely cause the flooding of
rivers, creeks, and low water crossings.

A few severe thunderstorms will be possible Friday afternoon into
early Friday night. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary
concern with the most intense thunderstorms. A brief, small,
short lived tornado will be possible given the stronger wind
shear
aloft.

As colder air moves into the area, a wintry mix or change over to
snow is expected late Friday into Saturday. Some accumulating
snow will be possible, with the best chances for over the
northwest portion of the outlook area from southeast Kansas into
central Missouri.
