...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM MDT FOR
SOUTHWESTERN HUERFANO AND NORTHEASTERN COSTILLA COUNTIES...

At 634 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain across the warned area. The strongest storm was located 3 miles 
west of La Veta Pass and was headed towards the Forbes Park area. 
This storm may cross the ridge and impact South Middle Creek, Oak 
Creek and Indian Creek if the storm holds together. Another strong 
storm was located 4 miles south of Gardner and will affect the 
northern portions of the burn scar. Both of these storms were moving 
south at 10 to 15 mph and are expected to most heavily impact the 
northern and western portions of the burn scar. Up to one inch of 
rain has already fallen across northern portions of the burn scar. 
Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly across portions of 
western and southern portions of the burn scar.

Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flows 
moving through the Pass Creek, South Oak Creek, and Yellowstone 
Creek as well as the Forbes Park area. The debris flows can consist 
of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Spring Burn Scar, La Veta and La Veta Pass. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Move away from recently burned areas. Life-threatening flooding of
creeks, roads and normally dry arroyos is likely. The heavy rains
will likely trigger rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep
terrain, especially in and around these areas.

At 730 PM MDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding 
along Pass Creek in the northern portions of the Spring burn scar. 
Up to one inch of rain has already fallen in this area. 
Thundrestorms also moved across the Forbes Park area and southeast 
portions of the burn scar where radar estimated between a quarter to 
three quarters of an inch has fallen.  

Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow 
moving through Pass Creek, Oak Creek, Yellowstone Creek, Wagon 
Creek, South Middle Creek, Indian Creek, and Rilling Creek.  The 
debris flows can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose 
materials.
