NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0657 PM CDT MON MAY 14 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 142357Z - 150100Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...60 PERCENT

SUMMARY...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MAY BE REQUIRED TO ACCOUNT FOR
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS DIGGING SEWD ALONG THE RIO GRANDE RIVER.

DISCUSSION...CLUSTERS OF STRONG/SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPANDING
IN AREAL COVERAGE/INTENSITY ACROSS NERN MEXICO JUST SOUTH OF THE BIG
BEND. THIS ACTIVITY IS MOVING ACROSS AN ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERIZED
BY STEEP LAPSE RATES AND MODEST INSTABILITY. OF PARTICULAR
IMPORTANCE...A STRONG MID LEVEL SPEED MAX IS DIGGING SEWD TOWARD
SOUTH TX AND THIS SHOULD ENCOURAGE ONGOING CONVECTION TO SPREAD
TOWARD THE SRN VALLEY. WHILE THE GREATEST CONCENTRATION OF STORMS
SHOULD REMAIN WEST OF THE RIVER IT/S BECOMING MORE LIKELY THAT SOME
OF IT WILL CROSS THE RIVER.
