NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0958 PM CDT TUE MAY 13 2003

AREAS AFFECTED...EXTREME SRN KS AND NRN/CNTRL OK

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL

VALID 140258Z - 140530Z

THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER PARTS OF EXTREME SRN KS AND
OR NRN OK BEFORE MIDNIGHT. THE STORMS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING OVER SRN
OK MAY ALSO INCREASE. VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND SHOULD BE
THE PRIMARY THREATS. WW MAY BE NEEDED IN ANOTHER HOUR OR TWO.

SURFACE ANALYSIS THIS EVENING SHOWS REMNANT OUTFLOW BOUNDARY/WARM
FRONT EXTENDING FROM A SURFACE LOW IN THE OK PANHANDLE SEWD THROUGH
N CNTRL AND SERN OK. DEWPOINTS IN THE LOW 70S HAVE ADVECTED NWD
UNDERNEATH STEEP LAPSE RATES RESULTING IN A VERY UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE
IN VICINITY OF AND S OF THE BOUNDARY FROM S CNTRL KS THROUGH MUCH OF
OK. INCREASING WARM ADVECTION ASSOCIATED WITH DEVELOPING SLY LOW
LEVEL JET SHOULD SUPPORT THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPMENT ALONG AND N OF
THIS BOUNDARY LATER TONIGHT. BOTH THE ETA AND RUC SHOW A STRONG
SIGNAL FOR DEVELOPMENT. THE STORMS DEVELOPING IN WARM ADVECTION
REGIME OVER SRN OK MAY ALSO INCREASE. CLOUD LAYER SHEAR WILL BE
SUPPORTIVE OF SUPERCELLS...AND THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES ARE FAVORABLE
FOR VERY LARGE HAIL WITH ANY SUSTAINED UPDRAFTS.
