000 TTAA00 KATL 270504 FFWATL GAC089-121-270800- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA 1202 AM EST SAT JAN 27 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 300 AM EST FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA ...DE KALB COUNTY...FULTON COUNTY MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINS OVER THE ATLANTA METROPOLITAN AREA HAVE CAUSED RAPID RISES IN AREA CREEKS AND STREAMS. BIG CREEK IN ALPHARETTA IS OUT OF ITS BANKS. PEACHTREE CREEK WAS APPROACHING BANKFULL AT MIDNIGHT. AT THAT TIME THE GAGE AT NORTHSIDE DRIVE WAS READING 16.1 FEET. FLOOD STAGE IS 17 FEET. PEACHTREE CREEK IS EXPECTED TO CREST NEAR 18 FEET BY 3 AM. AT 18 FEET WATER BEGINS TO ENTER HOMES ON HANOVER WEST DRIVE AND BACKYARDS ON WEST NANCY CREEK ROAD BEGIN TO FLOOD. OTHER SMALL STREAMS IN THE METRO AREA MAY ALSO BE OUT OF THEIR BANKS. PEOPLE LIVING NEAR CREEKS SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON WATER LEVELS AND BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. MOTORISTS MAY ENCOUNTER FLOODED ROADS AND ARE URGED TO AVOID TRAVEL UNTIL WATER LEVELS RECEDE. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
