000 TTAA00 KATL 271258 FFWATL GAC089-121-135-271700- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA 755 AM EST SAT JAN 27 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL NOON EST FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA ...DE KALB COUNTY...NORTH CENTRAL FULTON COUNTY ...NORTHERN GWINNETT COUNTY VERY HEAVY RAINS HAVE FALLEN OVERNIGHT THROUGHOUT THE ATLANTA METRO AREA. RAINFALL HAS AVERAGED BETWEEN THREE AND THREE AND A HALF INCHES SINCE LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON. AS A RESULT OF THE VERY HEAVY RAINFALL BIG CREEK...SUWANNEE CREEK AND PEACHTREE CREEK HAVE GONE INTO FLOOD. AT 7 AM THIS MORNING THE STAGE AT PEACHTREE CREEK WAS 18.3 FEET AT NORTH SIDE DRIVER. FLOOD STAGE IS 17 FEET. THE PEACHTREE CREEK SHOULD FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE AT THE GAGE SITE BY 10 AM THIS MORNING. PEACHTREE CREEK CRESTED NEAR 18.5 FEET AROUND 430 AM THIS MORNING. THE STAGE AT BIG CREEK NEAR ALPHARETTA WAS 9.2 FEET AT 7 AM. BANKFULL IS 7 FEET. IT WILL CONTINUE TO RISE STEADLY TODAY AS RUNOFF CONTINUES TO FL INTO BIG CREEK. BIG CREEK SHOULD RISE TO 10 TO 10.5 FEET THEN REMAIN NEAR THAT LEVEL UNTIL LATE TONIGHT. SUWANNEE CREEK IN NORTH GWINNETT COUNTY WAS A FOOT AND A HALF ABOVE BANKFULL AT 9 FEET EARLY THIS MORNING. BANKFULL IS 7 FEET. SUWANNEE WILL RISE TO NEAR 10 FEET BEFORE CRESTING LATER TODAY...THEN FALL VERY SLOWLY TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. FLOODING OF THE AREA CREEK IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE ATLANTA METRO AREA WILL CONTINUE. YOU ARE URGED NOT TO ATTEMPT TO FORGE THEM AN ABOVE ALL...KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM THEM. THE INFORMATION CONCERNING PEACHTREE CREEK...SUWANNEE...AND BIG CREEK WILL BE AGAIN LATER THIS MORNING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
