From Sandy to Round Mtn Arpt, this EF0 tornado ran 4.8 miles across Blanco County on May 25, 2015, touching down at 1:04 PM CDT and reaching 200 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

    The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

What the Weather Service recorded

An upper level low moved into the central plains and a shortwave trough moved across Texas. The low level airmass remained very moist and the result was thunderstorms that produced heavy rain and isolated severe weather.

A NWS storm survey team concluded a tornado touched down near the intersection of Ranch Road 1320 and North Grape Creek. The tornado traveled to the northeast along Ranch Road 1320 eventually crossing Ranch Road 1323 and lifting before Hwy 281. Damage was primarily to numerous trees which were uprooted or suffered damage to large limbs. Two barns were damaged as well. Peak winds were estimated at 85 mph.
