EF0 tornado, Red Oak to Lodi, Oklahoma, May 10, 2015

From Red Oak to Lodi, this EF0 tornado ran 3.7 miles across Latimer County on May 10, 2015, touching down at 7:46 PM CDT and reaching 75 yards wide. It killed nobody.

The rating scale

    Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

  4. EF3136 to 165 mph

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

    The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

What the Weather Service recorded

A slow-moving low pressure trough moved from the Rockies into the Plains during the 9th and 10th. Several disturbances rotating through this trough translated across the Southern Plains during this period. With very moist and unstable air in place over the region, multiple periods of thunderstorms occurred. Locally heavy rainfall as well as severe weather was prevalent across eastern Oklahoma.

A tornado snapped large tree limbs along a narrow path. Based on this damage, maximum estimated wind in the tornado was 65 to 75 mph.
