A strong upper level storm system took up residence in the northern Gulf of Alaska during the second weekend of April. Abundant moisture was drawn up by the circulation of this system which managed to wrap around the storm center and push into the Interior of Alaska. This resulted in 24 to 36 hours of steady, and at times heavy, snowfall that affected travel along Interior highways.

The Alaska DOT reported 6 to 12 inches if new snowfall along the Richardson Highway just south of Donnelly Dome. They also reported considerable blowing snow as strong north winds developed through the pass.
The NWS spotter in Tok reported a storm total snowfall amount of 8.8 inches of snow. In addition reports from the Alaska DOT indicated difficult road conditions from Dot Lake to Delta Junction along the Alaska Highway due to deep snow and icy conditions along the roadway.
