What happened

The episode as NWS FSD wrote it up.

A strong moisture-laden Colorado Low moved across the Northern Plains November 28 and 29 resulting in widespread snowfall from 4 to 12 inches, with the greatest snowfall in portions of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota toward the U.S. Highway 71 corridor. Many locations found a brief break in snowfall later on November 28 when some light freezing rain and freezing drizzle occurred. Overall, area roadways were snow covered and slick resulting in hazardous travel.
