.SYNOPSIS...
Residual moisture around a diminishing front in the vicinity of
the central islands has continued to bring showers to parts of the
islands, mainly over portions of Maui County and the Big Island.
Drier conditions return with northwesterly winds, gradually
transitioning northerly over the weekend. As the work week begins,
a more typical northeast trade wind pattern is anticipated to
return, with showers favoring windward and muaka areas through the
early part of next week. However, trades weaken towards the end
of the week in response to a passing mid-level troughing.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Latest satellite imagery shows some showers continuing across many
portions of the islands, moving southwest to northeast, with the
strongest showers over Moloka'i from a diminishing frontal passage.
This has resulted in a flood advisory being issued for the
aforementioned area through 10:45 local time due to the excessive
rainfall. These showers will continue through the evening and into
the morning hours before moving southeastward into the eastern
regions of the Big Island. Additionally, latest webcams show
moderate snowfall accumulating over the summits above 12,000 ft of
Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. This will also continue through the
overnight hours along with periods of gusty winds, and decreasing
thereafter.

Stable, breezy winds become established from the northwest as a weak
area of transitioning to a more northern component over the weekend.
Conditions will also be much drier for most of the island through
the weekend, with only lingering showers over the Big Island,
predominately over the Hamakua coastline. As we move into next week,
trades are reintroduced to the forecast, courtesy of the building
high pressure over the Central Pacific Basin just west of the
islands. However, late week mid-level troughing passes over the
islands, resulting in weakened trades.

&&

.AVIATION...
Clouds and spotty showers favoring SW through N facing slopes
will linger overnight and into early Saturday, due to moderate
west-southwest flow and some residual moisture lingering around a
diminishing front. Expect a gradual drying trend from west to
east through the 24 hr period, with the low-level flow gradually
veering from the WSW to the N through the day Saturday.

AIRMET Sierra for tempo mountain obscuration is in effect for SW
thru N facing slopes, which may persist through a good portion of
the night before improving.

&&

.MARINE...
A strong low passing to the north of the state will continue its
slow northeastward march. Its associated cold front is presently
passing over Oahu and moving steadily eastward --weakening in the
process. Bands of showers, preceding the front, will persist
over the eastern half of the sate through Saturday night. Showers
may be heavy at times, but additional thunderstorms are not
expected.

By Saturday morning, the front is expected to be near the Big
Island with gentle to moderate NW winds expected over most of the
state on Saturday. High pressure building far NW of the state
should bring the return of moderate northerly trades on Sunday
veering slightly more easterly and strengthening to locally
strong speeds by Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

Multiple overlapping north and northwest swells associated with
the storm will continue to impact Hawaii through the remainder of
the weekend. A Small Craft Advisory (SCA) is in effect through 6
am Saturday for many zones due to seas of 10 feet or greater.
While seas are expected to subside somewhat overnight, the SCA
will likely need to be extended through Saturday afternoon for
select zones.

A High Surf Advisory (HSA) remains in effect for north facing
shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui, but will likely
be cancelled towards morning. The current long-period north (010)
swell is expected to quickly subside and a medium- period
northwest (310) swell become dominant by Saturday afternoon.
Locally generated wind waves out of the south and west will keep
surf rough along west and southwest shores through Saturday.

Another significant north swell is expected to build in during
the day Sunday, peak Sunday night, and possibly generate advisory
level surf along north facing shores. An additional northwest
swell is also expected. This swell will arrive on Monday, peak on
Tuesday, and linger through Wednesday, but should not produce
high surf.
