The short term forecast main issue is Tropical Storm, expected to
be Hurricane Francine through Wednesday night.
Shower activity this afternoon is mainly associated with the
leading edge of the tropical moisture associated with Francine
over-riding the old frontal boundary at the coast, along with a
MCV moving out of the northwest Gulf of Mexico. The convective
nature of this activity should diminish with the loss of daytime
heating, then mainly light to moderate stratiform rain should
invade from the south.
The official track shows Francine strengthening to a hurricane
with the center making landfall around the Morgan City area late
Wednesday afternoon with tropical storm force winds reaching the
coast in the mid to late morning time frame.
Adjusted the forecast and hazards with the stronger impacts for
the lower Acadiana and lower Atchafalaya Basin.
The system should move quickly off to the northeast on Wednesday
night with improving conditions by early Thursday.

area in wake of Francine. Therefore, temperatures will be
increasing back to summertime values with slight rain chances.

Expecting a return to generally MVFR ceilings over the next few
hours, with cloud heights then lowering to IFR levels by midnight.
Easterly winds will gradually elevate later tonight with the
approach of Hurricane Francine, with winds gradually backing
while further intensifying tomorrow, especially for the Acadiana
terminals which will be in closest proximity to the center of the
storm as it moves ashore along the s-cntl/sern LA coast.

Conditions over the coastal waters will deteriorate overnight as
Tropical Storm Francine, expected to be a hurricane, will move
northeast toward the coastal waters, with tropical storm winds
entering the marine zones by 09z or 4 am local.
Francine is then expected to make landfall near Morgan City late
Wednesday afternoon.
As Francine is moving quickly to the northeast on Wednesday night,
conditions over the marine area should improve greatly on
Thursday.
