A low pressure system tracked along the Wisconsin and Illinois border on Monday (2/27). A surge of warm air aloft led to freezing rain across central and east-central Wisconsin with snow across north-central and northeast Wisconsin. Ice accumulations ranged from one tenth to one third of an inch across central and east-central Wisconsin. Snowfall accumulations were generally 6 to 9 inches across north-central and northeast Wisconsin.
Some of the highest snowfall totals included 9.4 inches in Sturgeon Bay (Door Co.), 9 inches in Oconto Falls (Oconto Co.), 8.8 inches near Cecil (Shawano Co.), 8.5 inches in Pulaski (Oconto Co.), 8 inches in Phelps (Vilas Co.), near Shawano (Shawano Co.), as well as Suring (Oconto Co.).
Some of the highest ice accumulations were 0.35 inches in Marshfield (Wood Co.), 0.28 inches in Wisconsin Rapids (Wood Co.), and 0.26 inches in Wausau (Marathon Co.).

A warm layer of air around 850 mb will likely keep precipitation as mainly liquid to start, with freezing rain expected at the onset across central and east-central Wisconsin. As the day wears on cooler temperatures aloft will allow for a mix of rain, snow, and sleet depending on surface temperatures and how quickly the column cools. Areas across southern central and east-central Wisconsin could changeover to all rain at times this afternoon. Further north precipitation will be a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet given cooler temperatures aloft with mainly snow expected during the afternoon hours as the column cools throughout the morning hours. Given the longer time of snow expected across the north, snowfall amounts will be higher than the rest of the cwa, with around 6 inches of snow possible across much of northeast Wisconsin. Further south, icing amounts will generally be one to two tenths across east-central Wisconsin with 1 to 3 inches of snow. Central Wisconsin is expected to see one quarter to one third of an inch of ice with one to two inches of snow. In addition to the precipitation, east winds will gust to 30 to 40 mph at times which could cause some power outages. No changes to current headlines are anticipated this morning. The precipitation should end from southeast to northeast this evening as the system departs. A quick system is expected for late Tuesday night into Wednesday followed by much milder weather. Tuesday night through Wednesday... A fast moving trough will bring a fast moving round of precipitation into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday. This system does not appear to have much moisture associated with it, but will still likely bring some scattered precipitation to most of the region. Expect a dusting of snow for most of northeast WI, although most areas will see less than an inch in accumulation. Rest of the forecast...Behind this, upper flow will split as the next upper trough digs into Southwestern CONUS. Our neck of the woods currently appears to be in the sweet spot between the two upper stream jets, with the northern jet keeping the cold air in Canada while the southern jet keeps the active weather to our south. As a result, outside of the aforementioned system no active weather is in the forecast.
