In the midst of hot and muggy conditions ruling the roost over the Central Appalachians, diurnally driven showers and thunderstorms thrived near the end of July. On the afternoon of July 24th, a few storms that originated in southeast Ohio crossed over the river into West Virginia. One particular storm that passed over Wood County resulted in strong damaging winds that day and caused downed trees in and around the Parkersburg area. Locally heavy downpours also resulted in a small creek to rise out of its banks briefly in the town of Mineral Wells.

Near the town of Washington, a farm observed multiple areas of damage. The roof was blown off of a barn, a tin roof was blown off of a chicken coop, and several trees were blown down on the land.

Large trees were blown down in the Parkersburg area along with power lines. Strong winds also caused trash cans and lawn furniture to be blown into neighboring yards.

In Lubeck, a large tree was blown down onto Homewood Road, blocking both lanes of traffic. Several trees were observed down on the stretch of Homewood Road between Lubeck and Wadeville.
