Ahead of a cold front passing through the state on the evening of January 19th, gusty winds persisted across West Virginia. A tightened pressure gradient yielded strong winds during the afternoon and evening hours of the 19th before the frontal passage.
The Automated Surface Observing System at the Yeager Airport in Charleston recorded a 48 mile per hour gust just after sunset as the winds continued to howl. Main impacts observed during this time were a few trees blown down onto roadways within the town of Danville in Boone County. Other stations in the state also measured strong winds on the upwards of 45-48 miles per hour throughout the day.
