.SYNOPSIS...
Strong low pressure will move up the coast today, bringing rain
this morning and gusty winds in its wake. High pressure moves
in behind the storm system with drier weather expected from mid
to late week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 250 AM EST Monday...
Latest sfc analysis indicates ~985mb low pressure crossing over the
NC coast near Morehead City with an inverted trough extending up the
coast well into the Eastern Shore. Aloft, a deep, negatively tilted,
trough extends southward from the western Great Lakes region toward
the southeast coast. The broadening area of sfc low pressure is
projected to track right along the coast today, exiting the local
area by early afternoon. Meanwhile, low pressure aloft will dive
into the Midwest. Latest radar shows a broad area of lighter rain
generally over areas E of I-95 and and band of heavier precip
running up along the Atlantic coast and Chesapeake Bay. Through the
morning, rain will become increasingly focused along the coast as
the low pushes northward. By late morning/early afternoon, most of
the FA should be dry with the exception of lingering precip on the
Eastern Shore. Since the rain started yesterday, the FA has received
a widespread 2-3" with locally higher amounts to around 4" near the
coast. By the time the rain finishes later this morning, coastal
areas could see another 0.5-1.5". Flooding potential will continue,
especially with the heavy precip close to the coast. Much of the
area is already showing NW winds gusting 20-30mph behind the coastal
trough. This will continue through the day in the wake of the low.
Locations on the Eastern Shore may gust 35-45mph late morning/early
afternoon. As such, Wind Advisories remain in effect for the Eastern
Shore. Temps this morning will range from the upper 40s-low 50s
inland and upper 50s near the coast where southerly flow will hang
on the longest. Highs today will be in the low-mid 50s.
Overnight, a strong UL low will pivot across the region. Despite dry
air advecting into the region, the strong forcing could be enough to
squeeze a few showers out near the coast late tonight. Given
temperatures dropping to around freezing, will maintain the
rain/snow mix for the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck and Eastern
Shore (Slight Chance). No accumulation is expected. Lows tonight
will be in the upper 20s in the west and low 30s in the east.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 250 AM EST Monday...
High pressure builds in behind this shortwave with dry
conditions returning. A reinforcing shot of dry, cold air
arrives Tues with gusty NW winds yet again (20-25 mph gusts
inland and 25-30 mph gusts along the coast) and highs in the low
to mid 40s. Lows Tue night will be very cold as high pressure
builds in with temps in the upper teens W to mid 20s E and mid-
upper 20s along the coast. Wed will still be cool with highs in
the mid- upper 40s and lows in the lower 20s W to lower 30s E.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 250 AM EST Monday...
Dry weather remains through the weekend with high pressure
dominating the local weather. Aloft, a large ridge over the
central CONUS strengthens but remains centered W of the local
area with NW flow and temps only slightly above normal.
Additionally, some model guidance (including the EURO) shows a
slight chance for a light shower across far N portions of the FA
next Sat/Sat night. However, confidence is very low and have
kept PoPs below 15% for now. Highs in the 50s Thu-Sun with upper
40s possible over the Eastern Shore Fri. Lows in the mid 20s W
to mid 30s E Thu night, upper 20s to lower 30s inland with mid-
upper 30s along the coast Fri night, lower 30s W to upper 30s
along the coast Sat night, and low-mid 30s W to upper 30s to
lower 40s along the coast Sun night.

.AVIATION /08Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 1255 AM EST Sunday...
Strong low pressure is centered immediately offshore of
Wilmington, NC as of 06z, with a coastal boundary extending to
the NE toward the Eastern Shore. Rain has overspread eastern
portions of the region tonight and will continue into the
morning. Cig/vsby are primarily IFR/MVFR. Wind conditions vary
across the area with gusty NW winds at RIC and S-SE winds at the
other terminals. Conditions are expected to remain degraded
through the rest of the night as this area of low pressure
moves up the coast, with significant LLWS along the coast. Rain
is expected to end from SW to NE as the low moves N of the local
area Monday morning. Additionally, there is a chance for a few
rumbles of thunder along the coast, but will leave this out of
the TAFs for now due to low confidence. Periods of LIFR CIGs
will continue to be possible as well as periodic LIFR/IFR vsby
in heavy rain at eastern terminals. IFR CIGs end from SW to NE
late tonight into Monday morning as the dry slot of the storm
moves onshore. Conditions improve to VFR by Mon afternoon with
CU (~5000 ft CIGs) likely as a potent upper system arrives from
the W. A period of strong NNW/NW wind is expected as the low
pulls away from the area early Monday morning with gusts to
30-35kt possible. Otherwise, expect a W/WNW wind of 15-20kt with
gusts up to 25 kt by aftn.
High pressure builds in from the W Monday night into Tuesday
with VFR conditions expected. Some CU are possible Tuesday as an
upper trough remains over the area. Dry and VFR conditions
prevail Wednesday through Friday with high pressure over the
region.

As of 250 AM EST Monday...
Gale Warnings remain in effect for the entire marine area, with a
bit of a lull in winds at this hour as low pressure is centered near
Morehead City, NC with an inverted trough extending N across the
local waters (which is resulting in a weak pressure gradient). Seas
have built to an impressive 12-19 ft with the southeast winds
earlier. Expect this relative lull to continue until 5-6 AM. Then,
as the low pulls away to the NNE, winds turn to W 25-30 kt with
gusts to 35-40 kt this morning across all the local waters. Gale
force gusts likely last through much of the day across the nrn
coastal waters. Will not make any changes to the Gale Warnings, and
they run through 1-4 PM. Winds become NW tonight and remain solidly
in SCA criteria through Tuesday night. Wind speeds will average 20-
25 kt from tonight-Tue night, with frequent 25-30 kt gusts expected.
High pressure builds in by midweek with lighter winds expected,
though seas stay aoa 5 ft through Thursday w/ long period swell from
low pressure lingering well offshore.
The High Surf Advisory remains in effect for coastal locations
through this aftn. Seas remain elevated above SCA criteria through
much of the remainder of the forecast period.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 250 AM EST Monday...
Strong low pressure is located tracking across the SE NC coast, and
tidal anomalies have risen sharply (to 2-2.5 ft above normal) across
the upper Ches Bay. Widespread minor flooding is being observed
across the lower bay/ocean at this hour, and Coastal Flood
Advisories remain in effect for these locations. In addition, water
levels at Elizabeth City/Edenton crested above flood thresholds
earlier (Elizabeth City nearly got to moderate flood stage), and
will keep the warning for Elizabeth City through 12z/7 AM and
convert to an advisory from Perquimans County westward.
Will continue with the Coastal Flood Warning for the bay side of the
MD Eastern Shore as moderate tidal flooding is forecast to occur
from Cambridge-Crisfield during the upcoming high tide cycle this
morning. Will keep the advisory for Northumberland/Westmoreland
Counties on the tidal Potomac. Water levels at Lewisetta will likely
crest at or just below moderate flood thresholds. No worse than
minor tidal flooding is expected in other areas adjacent to the Ches
Bay/Atlantic Ocean, and will continue with Coastal Flood Advisories
in areas along the Bay and the James/York/Rappahannock to include
the lower Peninsula/Peninsula and the VA eastern shore (although
these will likely be allowed to expire later this morning). There is
some potential for an additional minor flood later this aftn/evening
in Bayford but with Saxis/Kiptopeke forecast to crest well below
flood stage, will not extend the advisory attm.
