.SYNOPSIS...Snow showers across eastern Nevada will dissipate
tonight as a weak disturbance moves out of the region. Quiet
weather is expected Thursday before another low pressure trough
moves through the area late Friday into Saturday bringing light
snow to northern Nevada. A deeper trough comes in Sunday into
Monday bringing widespread snow and colder temperatures to the
region early next week.

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night

An upper-level trough will gradually move towards the four corners
region tonight bringing an end to light snow across northeastern
and eastern Nevada. Additional accumulation will be very light,
around an inch, and focused in mountain areas through the
evening. Minimal impacts are expected in valleys. However, winds
will remain elevated as strong northwest winds continue this
afternoon before subsiding this evening. This could promote areas
of blowing snow. Rather quiet weather is expected Thursday and
Thursday night. A few wind gusts around 25 mph are expected across
Elko county Thursday but otherwise dry conditions are expected.
Lows will generally be in the teens tonight with highs Thursday in
the upper 20s to lower 30s in most areas. Lows Thursday night will
be a few degrees warmer but remain in the teens for most valleys.

.LONG TERM...Friday through next Wednesday

A high amplitude ridge trough pattern will aid in northerly flow
Friday. A trough working in from the north will provide some light
snow to the mountains of northern Nevada early Friday afternoon
into late Saturday morning. QPF amounts range from 0.01 to 0.19
inches. Accumulation chances in the mountains range from 60-65%
of 1 inch to a 15% chance of 3 inches. Elsewhere across valleys of
northern Nevada, a trace to up to a few tenths of snow is
expected. Winds are also expected to be elevated Friday afternoon,
across northern and eastern Elko County. Currently ensembles show
a 75% chance of having a wind speed of at least 25 mph, with a
50% of wind gusts reaching 40 mph. This may contribute to blowing
and drifting snow across the high elevation mountain tops that
receive snow. Elsewhere, a fairly quiet Friday is expected, with
fairly light westerly winds, dry conditions, and highs in the 30s
to near 40. Aside from lingering snow showers across the north
early Saturday, quiet weather is also expected this day, with
highs in the upper 20s to 30s, as some cooler air begins to work
in.

The next weather system moves into the region Sunday, in the form
of an embedded trough following the north-south flow. Models are
depicting this low to form off or over the California coast
sometime early Sunday. Current guidance will favor precip
starting over Humboldt County early Sunday, and progressing south
and east, eventually working its way into White Pine County late
Sunday afternoon and tapering off in that area late Monday
morning. Guidance is showing a general half to 1 inch in most
valleys, with higher amounts across mountains and ridgetops. In
White Pine County from Sunday evening through Monday evening
ensembles show anywhere from a 15 to 32% chance of getting or
exceeding 2 inches. For higher elevations such as Great Basin
National Park having a 56% chance of meeting or exceeding 2
inches, with a 23% of 5 or more inches. Cold air begins to filter
into the state during and behind this system. Sunday highs will
generally be in the 30s and 40s across central Nevada, with
colder 20s and 30s across northern Nevada. For Sunday night lows
will drop into the teens across central Nevada while getting as
low as single digits above and below zero across northern Nevada.

Monday, while the on the back-half of the Sunday-Monday system,
cold temperatures continue to filter into the entire state.
Daytime highs will reach into the teens and 20s for most with some
areas across the mountains tops in northern Nevada wont crack
double digits. Winds will remain fairly light. Lows Monday night
will be in the single digits across all of the warning area, with
areas across Elko county being in the negative single digits.

Tuesday and Wednesday are much of the same as Monday, with cold
temperatures being the main story. Highs will generally be in the
teens and 20s, with lows in the + or - single digits. Warmer air
does start to work its way into Humboldt county Wednesday.

.AVIATION...There will be some showers in the vicinity of KEKO
in the afternoon, which could provide some MVFR ceilings at
times. KELY will see the same in the late afternoon into the
evening. Probabilities for a shower at either station are only
around 10% and therefore were left out of the TAF package.

Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected at KWMC, KBAM, and KTPH
through this evening. KTPH will see some afternoon northwest wind
gusts to around 25 kts.
