Abundant Gulf of Mexico moisture characterized by dewpoints in the middle to upper 60s spread northward across the Lower Mississippi Valley on March 24th. A surface low was located just north of the Ark-La-Tex region with a strengthening low-level jet over the broadening warm sector and bands of convection across much of South Arkansas and North Louisiana. Thunderstorms continued to rapidly organize along the cold front from late afternoon into the early evening, particularly near the surface low over west-central Arkansas. Multiple bands of convection continued to intensify within the moisture plume characteristic with over 1500 J/kg of MLCAPE. As a result, thunderstorms eventually produced some isolated severe wind gusts in Union Parish where a few reports of damage were documented.

A potentially significant severe weather threat exists across much of the region today, as showers and thunderstorms develop across southeast Oklahoma, adjacent southwest Arkansas, and east Texas during the morning, before shifting east across the remainder of the region during the afternoon and evening. Isolated tornadoes, some of which could be strong, damaging winds, and large hail will be possible, with locally heavy rainfall also accompanying the stronger storms. The threat for severe weather should end late this evening as the storms exit the region to the east. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday. and northern Cherokee Counties through 315 PM CDT...
At 245 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Maydelle, or near Rusk, moving northeast at 60 mph.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Jacksonville, Rusk, New Salem, Ponta, Maydelle, New Summerfield,
Gallatin, Reklaw, Concord and Laneville.
