.SYNOPSIS...
Backdoor cold front will complete its push south and west
across the entire region this evening. A closed low will then
linger across the Northeast through the rest of the week.
Surface high pressure generally builds to our northwest Sunday
into Monday, then another cold front arrives Monday night into
Tuesday. Low pressure meanders near Nova Scotia Canada Tuesday
through Thursday, then high pressure builds across the Great
Lakes to the Ohio Valley regions into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Showers and a few strong to severe thunderstorms have traversed
mainly eastern Pennsylvania this afternoon and evening. The
remaining instability will wane with loss of daytime heating and
expect that any showers left will do the same, though most have
largely exited the region as of 7PM. Otherwise, remaining
convective debris clouds will clear out while dry air builds
from the north as the front pushes off to the west and cold
advection ensues with northeasterly flow. Only some minor tweaks
to the hourly grids as the forecast is on track...
Into tonight, the cold front will continue to sink southward out of
our area allowing much drier air to filter in from the north. The
moisture trapped at low levels will steadily diminish throughout the
night, allowing skies to gradually clear from south to north after
midnight or so. Winds will continue to ease throughout the night as
well, becoming N around 5mph/less. This will cause lows tonight to
fall into the mid to upper 40s, with low 50s around urban heat
islands, coastal locales, and the Delmarva.
Sunday will be the better half of the weekend compared to Saturday.
A mostly sunny morning is in store for most, with lingering clouds
near the coast. On the backside of a closed upper low situated near
the Gulf of Maine and high pressure extending across the Great Lakes
will allow Sunday to be dry with some clouds. Highs Sunday will be
in the low to mid 70s, with 60s across the Poconos and the coast as
onshore flow continues.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
An omega block pattern in the upper levels will set up across the
continental United States by Monday, resulting in a closed low
centered near the Northeastern U.S. with a ridge into central
Canada (and another closed low across the Southwest to complete
our blocking pattern). The upper- level low will then gradually
drift off to the east through Monday, allowing for a surface
high across Hudson Bay to extend southeastward over the Great
Lakes and lean into the Mid Atlantic region to provide a mostly
dry and warm period. Sunday night will remain quiet with lows in
the 40s with low to mid 50s across the urban corridor. Temperatures
will then warm nicely on Monday with mid 70s to low 80s. Modest
daytime heating will likely allow for a seabreeze to develop in
the afternoon which will easily overcome the light NW flow across
the region during the day, helping it keep cooler near the immediate
coast.
A second upper-level low will then move southward across Quebec
towards the base of long wave trough, merging with the main upper
low on Tuesday, which will allow a cold front will settle across our
area Monday night and into Tuesday. While moisture is limited, a few
isolated showers cannot be ruled out Monday night therefore
maintained some slight chance (20 percent) PoPs for mainly the
northern areas. Low temperatures will remain slightly warmer and
squarely in the 50s. A better chance of showers and possibly a
thunderstorm or two will also arise Tuesday afternoon as the
shortwave trough pivots across the region and merges with the main
upper low. Placed a 25-40% chance for rain across the region during
the afternoon. Highs will be a few degrees warmer than the previous
day's with a few locations getting close to the mid 80s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The closed low lingers across the Northeast all week and is forecast
to dominate our weather pattern through Saturday.
Through Wednesday...Surface high pressure centered near Hudson Bay
will start to build southward some through Wednesday, however we
will remain under large scale cyclonic flow and a cooler regime. A
few showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm will be possible
again in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 60s for higher
elevations with mid to upper 70s elsewhere.
For Thursday through Saturday...The pattern holds with the closed
low centered in the vicinity of northern New England, however this
may start to shift eastward later Friday and into Saturday as an
upstream shortwave trough approaches the upper Great Lakes region. A
surface trough may rotate across our area Thursday, potentially
focusing a few showers or a thunderstorm. There should then be less
influence of the closed low during Friday and therefore kept the
forecast dry, and this will result in at least some warming
occurring. Saturday will see high pressure beginning to take a
stronger hold over the region, but some model differences in the
speed of the departing closed low will add a bit of uncertainty to
that forecast. Warmer day in general, but a non-zero chance for
showers once again in the afternoon.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Ceilings are expected to hold at MVFR for most sites
through 02z/03z with lingering convective debris/associated low
level clouds before becoming VFR overnight. KMIV/KACY may hold
MVFR for a few hours longer. Winds NE-E around 5-10kts. Moderate
confidence.
Sunday...VFR. N-NE winds around 10 knots, becoming E-SE in the
afternoon for KMIV/KACY. Moderate confidence.
Outlook...
Monday...VFR. Northwest winds around 10 knots, becoming southerly in
the afternoon at ACY behind a sea breeze. Moderate confidence.
Tuesday through Thursday...Mainly VFR, however some showers/thunder
will be possible especially each afternoon and early evening which
could bring locally brief restrictions. Northwesterly winds around
10 knots. Low confidence on coverage of showers/thunder.

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for all coastal waters.
The Advisory ends at 2 AM for Delaware Bay waters, but will continue
through 5 PM Saturday for the Atlantic coastal waters for elevated
seas.
Tonight...Northeast winds of 25-30kt will persist until about
midnight, before lowering during the early morning hours. A few
isolated gusts above 30kt are possible, especially along the NJ
coast. Seas of 6-9 feet.
Sunday...North-Northeast winds of 15-20kt with gusts up to 25kt
early, will lower throughout the afternoon. Seas of 5-7 feet,
lowering to 3-5 feet late.
Outlook...
Monday...Conditions are anticipated to be below Small Craft Advisory
criteria. Seas 3-4 feet with light NNW flow around 10 kts, becoming
SSW in the afternoon with the development of a sea breeze.
Tuesday through Thursday...The conditions are anticipated to be
below Small Craft Advisory criteria. Seas remain around 2-3
feet and light NNW flow continues around 10 kts with a SSW sea
breeze possible in the afternoon.
Rip currents...
Through this evening...There is a HIGH risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.
Northeast winds increase to 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Breaking waves will build to 3-5 feet in the surf zone with a
medium period east/northeast swell. This will result in dangerous
rip current development becoming more likely, especially this
afternoon, and thus the upgrade to a high risk.
Sunday...There is a MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous
rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches. Northeast
winds are expected to diminish and also turn easterly. Wave
heights offshore will subside, with breaking waves in the surf
zone also settling down some. An east/northeast swell however
is forecast to have a longer period. Given lowering winds and
waves, conditions should improve some during the course of the
day and therefore held off on a high risk.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A gusty northeast wind develops today from north to south in
the wake of a strong cold front. The onshore flow in combination
with the high astronomical tides associated with the full moon
today is expected to result in minor coastal flooding along the
New Jersey and Delaware coasts, the tidal Delaware River, and
and the Delaware Bay with tonight's high tide. The exception is
across southern New Jersey and the Atlantic Coast of Delaware
where tides are expected to increase to moderate flood stage.
Latest guidance from STOFS, ETSS, and the median surge from
Stevens all point to Lewes reaching well into moderate flood
stage while Cape May Harbor and Great Egg Harbor are more
marginal. Thus a Coastal Flood Warning is no in effect for Cape
May NJ and Sussex DE, with a Coastal Flood Advisory issue for
all other DE and NJ tidal zones.
With the surge of water pushing towards the coast, guidance
suggests the potential for minor coastal flooding is possible
during the Sunday night and perhaps Monday night's high tide as
well, though confidence is lower on this occurrence.
Coastal flooding is not expected along our portion of Maryland's
Eastern Shore.
