An upper level ridge became centered over East Texas, North Louisiana, and into the Northern Gulf of Mexico to start the month of July, with strong sinking motion beneath the ridge contributing to temperatures climbing into the mid 90s across much of Southwest Arkansas. When combined with the high humidity, heat indices climbed to around 105 degrees during the afternoon of July 1st.
