Mainly in the northeast corner of Montana, these temperatures combined with breezy to gusty winds to create dangerously cold wind chills for at least two consecutive nights.

For multiple sites across Sheridan County, temperatures in the teens and 20s below zero and breezy winds created intermittent periods of wind chills of -40 or worse beginning as early as late night on the 21st and lasting as long as the morning of the 23rd. The peak wind chill of -48 was recorded at 4:35 AM on the 22nd at the Sher-wood Airport (Plentywood) ASOS.

At the Navajo MT-5 DOT site (MTRED), temperatures in the teens and 20s below zero and breezy winds created intermittent periods of wind chills of -40 or worse from late night of the 21st into the early morning of the 23rd. The peak wind chill of -44 was recorded from 12:59 AM to 1:01 AM and again at 2:40 AM on the 22nd.
