.UPDATE...Updated air quality issues section.
&&
.SYNOPSIS...
Clouds will remain trapped in parts of the San Joaquin Valley
through Monday before a weather system passes across Northern
California on Monday night and Tuesday. Some light precipitation
is possible mainly near Yosemite on Tuesday. High pressure then
returns Tuesday night through Thursday morning before another
storm system moves across Northern California and again brings a
chance of light precipitation the areas mainly north of Fresno
County.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Satellite imagery and surface reports indicate stubborn stratus
clouds remain over the east side of the San Joaquin Valley, the
Sierra foothills and the north and west facing slopes of the
Tehachapi and San Emigdio Mountains of Kern County. Expect some
clearing of the clouds over the remainder of the San Joaquin
Valley this afternoon. Meanwhile over the Sierra and Kern County
desert areas plenty of sunshine is found this Halloween afternoon.
The pattern over the next few days can be summarized as a
progressive flow pattern into the West Coast and two weather
systems moving onshore. The path of these storms will remain
across Washington, Oregon and Northern California with the first
arriving Monday night and early Tuesday and the second on
Thursday. Latest deterministic models keep the majority of the
precipitation from Fresno northward and the system on Thursday
looks to have more strength. Neither of these frontal systems will
bring heavy precipitation as they are quick hitters however some
additional snow and rain is always welcome. By Friday and over the
upcoming weekend, ridging is projected to strengthen west of the
SoCal Coast and this will push the storm track farther to the
north and bring a period of dry weather to the forecast area.
Here is some probabilistic precipitation information:
To receive 0.10" of rain:
Yosemite Valley: 21% Tuesday and 41% Thursday. Merced: 22%
Tuesday and 25% Thursday. Fresno: 13% Tuesday and 18% Thursday.
