.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thanksgiving...Afternoon satellite
shows an impressive but weakening occluded low pressure system
embedded in a trough axis right over the region. Many areas
continue to have light to moderate snowfall while breezy to gusty
winds are peaking in central Washington and north-central Oregon.
Tonight, general area of sfc low pressure will slide south.
Remaining moisture, localized areas of deformation, and topography
will combine to continue to promote snow showers (or rain/snow
mix for Basin floor). North and east facing slopes will be favored
for additional measurable snow along the WA and OR Cascade crest
and east facing foothills while southern slopes may be given more
preference for upslope snow in the extreme eastern/southeastern
portions of the region. Breezy conditions through much of the
Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin will ease through the night
tonight. The region will wake to below normal temperatures
Thanksgiving morning, particularly around the John Day Highlands
and slopes of the East Cascades. Tomorrow, deep northeast flow and
lingering moisture may allow some snow showers to persist along
the Cascades, but elsewhere, a drier airmass is expected to work
its way in with decreasing POPs and cloud cover moving NW to SE
across the region. clark
Thursday night through Saturday...relatively benign
weather as the upper low continues south and then east along the
NV/OR border. Any lingering snow showers over central OR should
quickly dissipate around sundown Thursday. Model guidance now
showing the low trying to drift back north towards southeast
OR/western ID. This would bring moisture into the eastern
mountains and fire off a few light snow showers during the daytime
and evening hours. Low finally kicks east Friday night into
Saturday and the region should be mainly dry. Warm air advection
out ahead of the next upper low will bring an increase in cloud
cover and a slight chance of snow over central Oregon on Saturday
afternoon. May see enough clearing for both Thursday night and
Friday night for patchy fog/freezing fog development, especially
over central OR with the recent snowfall. Cold temps expected with
highs the 20s to low 30s and lows in the single digits to teens.

.LONG TERM...Saturday night through Wednesday...Models in fair
agreement with upper trough over the eastern Pacific digging
southward to off the coast of California by Monday afternoon and
swinging into southern California by Wednesday. Some weak
isentropic lift is expected to develop Saturday night as return flow
develops over Oregon. This should result in some light snow
developing over our southern CWA, possibly heavier at times
over our southern mountains. A drying trend is expected thereafter
as the aforementioned system continues to move away from the area
and general westerly flow develops in it's wake. As a result
of the westerly flow, a chance of light snow is expected to develop
over the Cascades by Tuesday and continue into Wednesday.
Temperatures will remain below normal through the period. Earle

off by early evening KRDM and KBDN. Light snow will continue into
the late evening hours for KDLS and KYKM. Elsewhere, VFR conditions
will continue. Patchy fog may redevelop in the vicinity of KRDM and
KBDN by early morning. The pressure gradient will continue to relax
with winds 10-20 kts through early evening, decreasing to less than
