What happened

The episode as NWS DDC wrote it up.

A significant winter storm crossed west to east just to the south of DDC's CWA during Sunday, January 30th and early Monday, January 31st. Frontogenesis began just south of Dodge City during Sunday evening, allowing convergence and enhanced snowfall amounts. Many school closings occurred through the southern part of DDC's CWA Monday. Additionally, there were scattered reports of automobile accidents, but no injuries reported. By Monday morning, 17 inches of snow was reported 4 miles southwest of Minneola in northwestern Clark County. From 12 to 16 inches of snow fell in a 30-mile wide band, oriented west to east from northwestern Meade County to northeastern Clark County. A 10 to 25-mile wide area of 9 to 12 inches surrounded the higher amounts, and stretched from extreme eastern Grant County to central Kiowa County. A swath of 6 to 9 inches of snowfall fell from eastern Stafford County to northwestern Morton County. On either side (N and S) of these higher amounts, a 10 to 25-mile wide band of 3 to 6 inch snow amounts fell, with also a narrow band of 1 to 3-inch snowfall amounts on the edges of the snow band. One aspect that was unusual with this storm is that there was very little wind. There were reports of six inches of snow piled on top of barb wire fence!
