A deepening surface low pressure system moved east into southern Kansas by the early evening hours producing a very tight pressure gradient over the northern Texas panhandle. This resulted in sustained winds of thirty-six knots interpolated at Dalhart and thirty-five knot sustained winds interpolated at Stratford and Spearman.
