AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
205 PM EST FRI JUN 14 2002

SHORT TERM DISCUSSION...
THE FORECAST CONCERNS FOR THIS PACKAGE ARE THE POP CHANCES THROUGH
THE WEEKEND.

THIS AFTERNOON THE SURFACE LOW WAS OVER EAST-CENTRAL MICHIGAN AND
LAKE HURON WITH CLOUDS WRAPPING AROUND THROUGH
WISCONSIN/ILLINOIS/INDIANA. NOT GOING TO CHANGE MUCH IN THE
FORECAST AS THE MODELS FOR THE MOST PART ARE STAYING IN LINE WITH THE
EXISTING FORECAST. ETA/AVN ARE AGREEING WITH THE PLACEMENTS OF THE
UPPER AND SURFACE LOWS...SO AGREE THAT THE LOW WILL HANG IN THE GREAT
LAKES AREA THROUGH SUNDAY. THEN WITH SHORTWAVES ROTATING AROUND THAT
LOW...LOW LEVEL MOISTURE...AND SOME INSTABILITY WILL KEEP THE SMALL
POPS GOING. ETA/AVN WERE SHOWING 500MB TEMPS TONIGHT AROUND -20 OVER
OUR CWA...SLIGHTLY WARMER SATURDAY...AND THEN THE -20 TO -21 RETURNS
ON SUNDAY INTO EARLY MONDAY. ETA MOS TEMPERATURE NUMBERS WERE
LOOKING A LITTLE TOO WARM FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...AVN LOOKED MORE
REASONABLE...SO WILL GO WITH IT.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
00Z MRF RUN MOVES THE LONG WAVE TROUGH OUT QUICKER...MAKING IT MORE
IN LINE WITH ECMWF. THIS WILL ALLOW WARMER TEMPS TO RETURN TO THE
AREA. CHALLENGE COMES IN PCPN CHCS. ADDITIONAL MSTR AND INSTABILITY
WORKS IN BY THURS AND FRI. FAIR AMT OF QPF PRINTED OUT ON FRIDAY
WITH MCS REMNANTS. AT THIS STAGE OF THE GAME...WILL KEEP EXTENDED
DRY WITH MODELS STILL TRYING TO CLEAN UP AFTER THE STUBBORN WEEKEND
PATTERN. WILL BUMP UP HIGHS ON TUESDAY A CATEGORY...BUT NOT AS
AGGRESSIVE AS MEX...ALTHOUGH AROUND 80 NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION WITH
ENOUGH SUN. REST OF EXTENDED UNCHANGED.

.IWX...NONE.
