AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
127 PM CDT THU APR 18 2002

MAIN CONCERNS FOR THIS FORECAST ARE CHANCES OF CONVECTION THROUGH
SUNDAY AND THE ASSOCIATED AFFECTS ON TEMPERATURES.

A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS DEVELOPED AROUND NOON OVER FAR EASTERN ZONES IN
WESTERN KENTUCKY IN AN AREA OF SLIGHTLY DEEPER MOISTURE AND ENHANCED
CUMULUS FIELD NOTICED ON SATELLITE IMAGERY. THIS ACTIVITY IS MOVING
EAST OF THE AREA AT THIS TIME...AND SHOULD NOT BE PROBLEM FOR
EVENING PERIOD. TO THE WEST...A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
HAS DEVELOPED ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. THIS ACTIVITY
MAY APPROACH SEVERE LEVELS LATER THIS AFTERNOON AS IT PROGRESSES
NORTHEAST. IT MAY CLIP A FEW SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES LATE THIS
AFTERNOON...SO WILL HAVE TO MONITOR LATEST TRENDS BEFORE ISSUANCE
TIME.

A COLD FRONT CURRENTLY LOCATED FROM WESTERN MINNESOTA TO WESTERN
KANSAS...WILL REMAIN NORTH OF THE QUAD STATE REGION THROUGH
FRIDAY...AS THE SOUTHERN U.S. UPPER HIGH CONTINUES TO DOMINATE.
HOWEVER...WARM SECTOR CONVECTION CANNOT BE RULED OUT...ESPECIALLY
GIVEN THE STORMS TO THE WEST AT THIS TIME. WILL GENERALLY GO WITH
BEST CHANCE POPS IN THE NORTHERN AREAS...CLOSER TO THE COLD FRONT
AND WITHIN BETTER SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT. FURTHER SOUTH...WESTERN
KENTUCKY MAY REMAIN DRY UNTIL LATE FRIDAY NIGHT...WHEN THE COLD
FRONT IS FORECAST TO MAKE AN INITIAL MOVE INTO AT LEAST THE NORTHERN
PORTIONS OF THE QUAD STATE.

THE MESOETA IS MORE AGRESSIVE MOVING THE FRONT AND AN ASSOCIATED
BAND OF CONVECTION THROUGH THE AREA BY MIDDAY SATURDAY.
HOWEVER...THE AVN STALLS THE BOUNDARY ACROSS THE AREA ON SATURDAY
AND THEN LIFTS IT BACK NORTH OF THE AREA SATURDAY EVENING. GIVEN
THAT THE AVN HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY SLOWER AND CORRECTLY SO...WILL
TREND POPS TOWARD THE AVN. LOOK FOR THE SURFACE HIGH TO COME IN
SUNDAY AND BRING AN END TO THE PRECIPITATION FOR COUPLE OF DAYS.
THE BEST CHANCE FOR SEVERE WEATHER APPEARS TO BE SATURDAY
AFTERNOON...WHEN THE BOUNDARY WILL BE STALLED ACROSS THE AREA.

THE EXTENDED MODELS CONTINUE TO BRING SOME SORT OF SYSTEM ACROSS THE
AREA ON WEDNESDAY...SO WILL CONTINUE TO BRING IN ANOTHER CHANCE
THEN. THIS SYSTEM SHOULD BE FAIRLY PROGRESSIVE WITH NEARLY ZONAL
FLOW ALOFT...SO WILL KEEP THURSDAY DRY.

GENERALLY FOLLOWED MAV GUIDANCE TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT THE
FORECAST...HOWEVER...THE FWC IS NOT THAT FAR OFF EITHER.

.PAH...NONE.
