AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR WESTERN SD AND NORTHEASTERN WY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RAPID CITY SD 810 PM MDT WED JUN 27 2001 ONLY ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE CWFA THIS EVENING...WITH SOME INTERESTING RIGHT- AND LEFT-MOVING SUPERCELLS OVER THE NORTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE AREA. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED FOR THE REST OF THIS EVENING AS A COMPACT VORTICITY MAX MOVES NORTHEAST ACROSS THE CWFA FROM CENTRAL WY. THE STORMS WILL BE CONFINED TO THE AREAS WEST OF FAITH TO PINE RIDGE WHERE THE LIFT IS STRONGEST. THE SHEAR IS MOST FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS OVER THE NORTHERN TIER OF COUNTIES WITH 0-6KM VALUES OF 20-30 M/S. HOWEVER... THE 0-1KM SRH AND LCL HEIGHT DO NOT SUPPORT TORNADOES OVER THE CWFA. LOW CLOUD COVER IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER AT LEAST THE NORTHERN CWFA LATER TONIGHT AS A WEAK COOL FRONT ENTERS THE REGION AND HIGH- DEWPOINT AIR WRAPS IN BEHIND THE FRONT.
