SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
225 PM CDT WED JUN 27 2001

THE CAP IS HOLDING STRONGER THAN EXPECTED ACROSS SERN TX EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON. KHGX SHOWS ISOLATED TSRA ALONG THE SEA BREEZE...ISOLATED
SHRA NEAR LAKE LIVINGSTON...AND SCT TSRA IN THE FAR NERN CWA. EXPECT
SHRA/TSRA TO CONTINUE DEVELOPING AS THE CAP ERODES...BUT AREAL
COVERAGE WILL PROBABLY NOT BE AS EXTENSIVE AS EARLIER THOUGHT.

THE MAIN FORECAST ISSUE IS POPS. THE 12Z NCEP MODELS ARE IN FAIR TO
GOOD AGREEMENT. NO PREFERENCE SINCE HANDLING CUTOFF LOWS IS TOUGH
FOR HUMAN OR MACHINE. NO BIG CHANGES IN THE FORECAST...MAINLY
DIURNAL CHANCE POPS IN MOST PERIODS...TEMPS NEAR CLIMO. BEST CHANCE
FOR A WASHOUT APPEARS TO BE SAT/SUN AS THE UPPER LOW CENTER IS
CLOSEST AND PWS INCREASE TO 1.8 TO 2.1 INCHES.

.HGX...NONE.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1125 AM CDT WED JUN 27 2001

...SLIGHT RISK OF ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EARLY AFTERNOON
THROUGH EARLY EVENING...

MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR WILL COMBINE WITH THE SEA BREEZE AND AN UPPER
LEVEL LOW TO PRODUCE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHEAST
TEXAS FROM EARLY AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY EVENING. HOWEVER...WIND
SHEAR IS WEAK...SO SEVERE WEATHER WILL TEND TO BE BRIEF AND ISOLATED.

THE MAIN SEVERE THREATS ARE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. THE MAIN
THREAT TIME IS FROM 2 PM TO 8 PM. ALL OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS HAS A CHANCE
FOR SEVERE WEATHER...BUT THE PRIMARY RISK AREA IS ALONG AND NORTH OF
INTERSTATE 10.

HEAVY RAIN IS ALSO POSSIBLE WITH SOME STORMS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL
AVERAGE 1/4 TO 3/4 INCH...BUT SOME LOCATIONS COULD RECEIVE 2 TO 4
INCHES OF RAIN WITH THE STRONGER...SLOWER MOVING STORMS.
