MOJAVE DESERT/SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAS VEGAS NV 300 AM PDT MON JUL 2 2001 SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING OVER THE FOUR CORNERS REGION WILL PROVIDE AN INCREASINGLY MOIST SOUTHEAST FLOW ALOFT AS THE WEEK PROGRESSES. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF LATE DAY THUNDERSTORMS ARE IN THE FORECAST FOR MOST AREAS TODAY AND TUESDAY. HOWEVER...NORTHWEST ARIZONA WILL SEE A GREATER THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS ON TUESDAY. DISCUSSION...FOUR CORNERS HIGH REMAINS IN PLACE WITH MID LEVEL MOISTURE ROTATING THROUGH ARIZONA. THUNDERSTORMS WERE MAINLY CONFINED TO AREAS OF EASTERN AND SOUTHERN ARIZONA AS MUCH OF THE LOWER LEVEL MOISTURE REMAINS ACROSS THOSE AREAS. MODELS ALSO SHOW A SERIES OF VORTMAXES EMBEDDED IN THE FLOW OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THESE MAY HELP TO KICK OFF A FEW THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND TUESDAY...BUT WITH CONDITIONS AT THE LOWER LEVELS DRY AND LACK OF DYNAMICS...FEEL THAT THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. BY WEDNESDAY...AVN IS SHOWING MUCH DEEPER LOW LEVEL MOISTURE PUSHING NORTHWARD. PW'S INCREASE TO OVER AN INCH WITH LI'S 0/-2. THIS LOOKS TO BE THE FIRST BIG CHANCE OF WET THUNDERSTORMS OVER MOST OF THE SOUTHERN CWA. THE MOISTURE INCREASES EVEN MORE BY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH PW'S BETWEEN 1.25 AND 1.50 INCHES.
