MOJAVE DESERT/SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAS VEGAS NV 910 AM PST MON DEC 3 2001 SYNOPSIS...A PACIFIC STORM WILL BRING COOL AND UNSETTLED WEATHER TO PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN GREAT BASIN AND MOJAVE DESERT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK. THE THREAT OF VALLEY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW WILL DIMINISH BY WEDNESDAY AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM SHIFTS EAST. DRY CONDITIONS WITH NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL RETURN TO THE REGION FOR THE END OF THE WEEK. DISCUSSION...MORNING SATELLITE PICS SHOWING LOW CLOUDS OVER MUCH OF THE NORTHERN CWA WITH A FEW SNOW SHOWERS ESMERALDA AND NORTHERN NYE COUNTIES. SOUTHERN HALF OF THE CWA IS MOSTLY CLEAR BUT AS COLDER AIR ADVECTS INTO THE REGION TODAY...DO EXPECT SOME ADDITIONAL LOW CLOUDS TO DEVELOP ALONG WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT SHOWERS. HOWEVER... THESE WILL MOSTLY BE CONFINED TO THE MOUNTAINS AND DONT FEEL THAT THE VALLEYS WILL SEE ANY SHOWER ACTIVITY. 12Z MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT AND BOTH THE ETA/AVN SWING THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM EAST ACROSS THE CALIFORNIA/ARIZONA BORDER. BOTH MODELS SHOW LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WRAPPING AROUND THE SYSTEM BACK INTO SOUTHERN NEVADA AND NORTHWEST ARIZONA. THE ETA IS MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH THE MOISTURE AND INCREASES THE QPF OVER SOUTHERN NEVADA WHEREAS THE AVN KEEPS MUCH OF THE MOISTURE EAST INTO ARIZONA. FEEL THAT BRINGING MOISTURE THIS FAR NORTH WILL BE DIFFICULT AND WILL LIKELY REDUCE POP CHANCES FOR TONIGHT OVER PORTIONS OF THE CWA...BUT WILL HANDLE THAT IN THE AFTERNOON PACKAGE. FOR THIS MORNING...HAVE GONE AHEAD AND LOWERED POPS AND REDUCED CLOUD COVER OVER PORTIONS OF THE CWA. .LAS...NONE.
