AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA
315 AM CST THU MAR 1 2001

THE SHORT TERM FORECAST WILL REMAIN WET THROUGH THE PERIOD
CONTINUING TO AGGRAVATE FLOOD PROBLEMS...HOWEVER THE EXTENDING IS
GIVING HOPE TO DRY WEATHER NEXT WEEK.

THE MODELS INDICATE THAT THE LINGERING UPPER TROUGH OVER THE
WESTERN US WILL BEGIN TO PROGRESS EAST TODAY. THIS TROUGH SHOULD BE
EAST OF THE AREA BY SUNDAY. HOWEVER RAIN WILL REMAIN IN THE
FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY...AS DEEP MOISTURE WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE
AREA UNTIL THIS TROUGH PASSES. POPS WILL REMAIN FAIRLY HIGH ACROSS
THE AREA AS DEEPNESS OF MOISTURE DOES NOT REQUIRE MUCH LIFT TO
GENERATE PRECIPITATION. A WEAK BOUNDARY FROM NEAR A JAN...ESF...TO
JUST EAST OF A LCH LINE WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL WILL BE LOCATED NEAR THIS
BOUNDARY THE NEXT FEW DAYS...WITH CONVERGENCE ALONG THE
BOUNDARY...THIS WILL BE THE LIKELY AREA FOR THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT. FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL BE EXTENDED TODAY FOR THE I20
CORRIDOR AND SOUTHWARD.

ON SUNDAY THE THE MID TO UPPER LEVELS WILL DRY OUT QUICKLY AS THE
TROUGH MOVES EAST AND PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES WILL RETURN BY MONDAY.

WILL NOT DEVIATE MUCH FROM FWC.
