AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA 245 PM CST THU MAR 1 2001 SAME SONG...DIFFERENT VERSE...FLOOD POTENTIAL CONTINUES TO BE THE MAIN THREAT ACROSS THE REGION THROUGH SATURDAY. KEEP LOOKING OUT NORTHWEST FOR THE RAINS TO END ACROSS NORTH TEXAS PER MODEL FCSTS AND THIS FINALLY MAY BE HAPPENING. HOWEVER...CONFIDENCE REMAINS VERY LOW WITH ANY MODEL OUTPUT UNTIL WE CAN GET THE UPPER TROUGH EAST OF THE REGION. AVN HAS HAD THE BEST HANDLE ON THIS PERSISTANT WEATHER PATTERN THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS WITH HIGHER QPF AMOUNTS FURTHER NORTH OF THE SFC BOUNDARY UNLIKE THE ETA WHICH KEEPS MOST OF ITS RAIN CLOSER TO THE COAST. HAVE NOTICED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS...WHILE THERE HAVE BEEN BIG DISCREPANCIES ON WHERE AND HOW MUCH PRECIP COMING OUT OF THE MODELS... DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY CLOSE TO AN 850MB BOUNDARY INTO CENTRAL/NORTHEAST TEXAS. ALONG A 320K THETA SFC AT 850MB APPEARS TO BE WHERE THE BEST THETA E MOISTURE CONVERGENCE AND ELEVATED NATURE TO THE CONVECTION HAS TAKEN PLACE. THIS FEATURE SHOULD SHIFT A LITTLE FURTHER SOUTH TNGT AND EARLY FRIDAY...WITH THE HEAVIEST AXIS OF PRECIP SHIFTING WITH IT. WILL THEREFORE EXTEND FFA INTO TONIGHT KEEPING IT BASICALLY WHERE IT IS NOW. THIS SOUTHWARD SHIFT MAY BE TEMPORARY AS AVN DEVELOPS A STRONG 850MB JET ALONG THE SOUTHERN LA COAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT WHICH LIFTS THIS THETA SFC FURTHER NORTH...HENCE SHIFTING HEAVIER RAIN NORTH OF THE CURRENT WATCH AREA. WILL KEEP LIKELY TO CATAGORICAL POPS THROUGH SATURDAY...EXCEPT UP NORTH...REINTRODUCING HIGHER POPS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY ACROSS THE NORTH. AVN TRYING TO ADVECT DRIER AIR INTO THE TROUGH AS IT BEGINS TO CUTOFF AND LIFT OUT ON SATURDAY BUT WILL NOT BUY INTO THIS SCENARIO JUST YET. STICKING TO MY GUNS WITH A DRY SUNDAY... AT LEAST OUT WEST AS THE REGION ENCOUNTERS INCREASING SUBSIDENCE AND RIDGING IN WAKE OF THE TROUGH.
