AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY 220 AM EDT TUE MAY 22 2001 MAIN FCST CONCERN TODAY IS TIMING OF PCPN ACROSS CWA DURING THE MORNING HOURS...THEN FOG POTENTIAL TONIGHT. FLOODING NOT EXPECTED TO BE A BIG PROBLEM BUT COULDNT RULE OUT SOME ISOLATED URBAN SMALL STREAM TYPE PROBLEMS THIS MORNING. SCT SHOWERS UNDER CLOSED COLD LOW THRU MOST OF THE EXTENDED STILL LOOKS REASONABLE. RADARS THIS MORNING SHOWING THAT SHRA/TSRA IS BEGINNING TO INCR OVER THE TN VALLEY EXTENDING NORTHWARD INTO CNTRL-E KY. PCPN IS JUST BEGINNING TO MOVE INTO THE CWA ATTM. 05Z SFC CHART SHOWING COLD FRONT BETWEEN CVG AND ILN/FFT AND LEX AND SOUTHWARD. LOW PRESSURE OVER LAKE SUP WITH SECONDARY COLD FRONT SOUTHWARD ACROSS IOWA/NW MO. DUE TO WEATHER ON THE INCR AND MOVING IN...WILL CUT TO THE CHASE HERE. PLAN ON HITTING THE POPS HARD THIS MORNING. WILL SPLIT CWA MORE OR LESS IN HALF AND TRY TO TIME THE PCPN OUT OF WEST BY LATE MORNING-MIDDAY..LATER IN THE AFTERNOON EAST. WILL PROBABLY GO WITH A THIS MORNING/THIS AFTERNOON PERIOD. WILL HOLD OFF ON ANY FF WATCHES ATTM BUT WILL MONITOR CLOSELY. WILL MENTION HEAVY RAIN PSBL THIS MORNING WITH PWS STILL RUNNING HIGH JUST AHEAD OF THE FRONT ALONG WITH GOOD DYNAMICS. Lightning struck the top of the Hogg building in downtown Jackson, causing a large section of stonework and bricks from the cornice to fall. The debris fell on top of a metal awning causing it to collapse blocking the entrance to a restaurant.
