UPDATES THIS MORNING FOR SKY CONDITION WORDING TODAY...OTHERWISE
FORECAST ON TRACK. BIG COMPLEX OF THUNDERSTORMS NOTED THIS MORNING OVER
SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA WITH ADDITIONAL THUNDER OFF THE SAN DIEGO COAST.
THIS AREA IS HEADING NORTHWEST TOWARD CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. SATELLITE
IMAGERY SHOWS A SECOND THIN BAND OF MID LEVEL MOISTURE FROM POINT
CONCEPTION TO LAKE TAHOE WITH MONTEREY RADAR INDICATING VIRGA. EXPECT
THIS BAND OF MOISTURE TO REMAIN OVER THE FAR NORTHERN PART OF THE
FORECAST AREA IN MERCED COUNTY. CONCERNS TODAY AND TONIGHT WILL REMAIN
FOCUSED ON THE THUNDERSTORM THREAT AS MORNING SOUNDINGS AT DESERT ROCK
(NORTHWEST OF LAS VEGAS) AND SAN DIEGO SHOW STRONG INSTABILITY. DESERT
ROCK SHOWED CAPE EXCEEDING 3500 J/KG WITH LIFTED INDICES NEAR -10...
WHILE COASTAL SAN DIEGO HAD A CAPE OVER 1300 AND LI TO -3. WITH THE FLOW
PATTERN REMAINING FROM THE SOUTHEAST AS TODAY...EXPECT THIS VERY
UNSTABLE AIR AND ASSOCIATED THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX TO MOVE NORTHWEST INTO
THE KERN DESERTS BY MID DAY AND INTO THE SIERRA AND SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY
BY LATER IN THE DAY AND TONIGHT. LOOKS LIKE THE POTENTIAL FOR A
LENGTHY CONVECTIVE EPISODE. JUST HOW MUCH CONVECTION GETS INTO
THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY IS ALWAYS QUESTIONABLE BUT THIS PATTERN IS
CLASSIC FOR IT TO OCCUR. CURRENT ZONES HAVE THE POPS COVERED WELL AND
WILL NOT UPDATE LATER PERIODS.

The Kern County Fire Department at Pine Mountain reported 2.20" rain occurred in 15 minutes ending at 1345 PST in 15 minutes and 1.17" rain fell in less than 1 hr at Pine Mountain Club rain gauge 1.5 miles to the west. Water over 1 foot deep was reported over most town streets. Radar precipitation estimates gave 1.5-2.0" on the One-Hour-Precipitation product.
